The .it domain is the official top-level domain (TLD) of Italy, and its registration is available to any individual, company, or organization. This TLD is very popular for both business and personal use, making it an excellent option for websites or businesses targeting the Italian market.
To register a .it domain, the following requirements must be met: the registrant must be a citizen or resident of a country within the European Economic Area (EEA)*, the Vatican, the Republic of San Marino, or the Swiss Confederation. If the registrant is a commercial entity, organization, or public association, the administrative contact must correspond to the legal representative of the entity responsible for the registration. The domain name must be between 3 and 63 characters. In case of disputes, the Regulations for the resolution of disputes apply.
-
EEA = 27 European Union countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.
Regarding .it domain transfers, providing the transfer code is mandatory. The transfer process does not include domain renewal. Before the transfer, the domain must be configured on a hosting service, and the associated nameservers must be specified.
Renewals are possible if the domain is within its renewal period and are carried out for one year. This period begins five days before the domain’s expiration date, so it is recommended to renew before this date to avoid service suspension.
For technical updates, changes to nameservers may take up to 24 hours to be fully completed.
In case of expiration, it is possible to restore a .it domain. The cost associated with the restore does not include domain renewal, which must be performed separately.
