The .nl domain is the official top-level domain (TLD) of Netherlands, and its registration is available to any individual, company, or organization. This TLD is very popular for both business and personal use, making it an excellent choice for websites or businesses targeting the Dutch market.
To register a .nl domain, any natural or legal person may do so. The domain name must be between 3 and 63 characters. In case of disputes, the SIDN Dispute Resolutions policy applies. During the registration process, an email is sent to the domain holder’s contact, who must approve the registration within 7 days.
Regarding transfers, providing the transfer code and the associated nameservers is mandatory. The transfer process does not include domain renewal.
Renewals are possible if the domain is within its renewal period and are carried out for 1 year. The renewal period begins 12 days before the domain’s expiration date, and it is recommended to renew before expiration to avoid domain suspension.
For technical updates, changes to nameservers may take up to 5 days to be fully completed.
In the event of expiration, domain restore is only allowed during a 40-day quarantine period after expiration, upon request. This process has an associated cost, and only the most recent holder can request domain recovery during this period. If restore is not performed within this timeframe, the domain becomes available for registration by any individual or legal entity.
